What it takes to thrive in commercial property

As a commercial real estate firm, Nemark engages with clients throughout the entire property cycle, from helping them shape iconic buildings and manage the planning process for them to helping universities and the NHS with their property tax strategies.

Commercial property advisors typically have interests in real estate, finance, economics, and urban development. They are often intrigued by market trends, enjoy building relationships and networks, and have a keen interest in architecture and the built environment. They are passionate about helping businesses grow by securing and developing the right spaces to maximise property value.

Successful advisors are analytical, detail‑oriented, and possess strong interpersonal skills. They excel in problem-solving, adapt to market changes, and are deeply invested in understanding property markets and client needs.

Application Process

  • Complete the online application for the Assistant Surveyor, Planning Consultant vacancy by the stated deadline. You may choose to apply to more than one location if you wish; or you can apply for one and state within your application if you’d be open to another location.
  • You will receive an automatic acknowledgement email to let you know we have received your application successfully.
  • We aim to review all applications and contact applicants prior to the Christmas holidays. We will contact all applicants, whether successful or unsuccessful, so if you have not heard from us (even if some of your peers have), it means we are still reviewing applications.
  • Those successfully shortlisted will be invited to attend an assessment day throughout January. Our assessment days are limited to 12 people per day so if you can’t attend the day you are invited to, we will do our best to accommodate you on a different day, but this can’t be guaranteed.
  • Successful candidates will join in September.

If you have any questions about the application process, please contact graduate@nmrk.com

General Pathway Information

All three of our pathways focus on the completion of the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). As a Graduate, you will gain experience in a wide range of specialisms to gain a strong understanding of the industry and Newmark’s key clients.

More specific information about each individual pathway can be found below.

Building Surveying Pathway

From your very first day, you’ll be given plenty of responsibility, working on real projects and meeting clients. You’ll be out and about on inspections, researching the market and presenting arguments. We’ll help you build up your competencies to ensure you are confident to sit your APC to become a chartered surveyor.

Building Surveying graduates based in the London office rotate amongst building consultancy, lease exit and project management. Those based nationally focus more on building consultancy as you will be part of a smaller team; however, you will still have the exposure to complete your APC and will have opportunities to work with the wider national team.

We recognise that you don’t have to achieve a degree in real estate to become a successful commercial property advisor. Graduates from any degree disciplines are welcome to apply.

The Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship route to attain an MSc if eligible, which is a great option for non-cognates. You would be able to join a Graduate scheme and receive workplace training and development alongside completing your APC with the end result that you qualify for MRICS. As an Apprenticeship-levy paying employer, this would be at no cost to you.

Commercial Real Estate Pathway

You’ll be out and about on inspections, researching the market and presenting arguments. We’ll help you build up your competencies to ensure you are confident to sit your APC to become a chartered surveyor.

You will experience four six-month rotations providing hands-on experience in a range of sectors and services. This helps you decide on the specialism you want to pursue long-term. National based Graduates are positioned in a multi-disciplinary environment and where the support you provide to the various sub teams will ensure elevated exposure whilst on the programme and beyond.
