First Transit, the largest public sector provider of transit services in North America, has signed a long-term lease on 32,501 square feet of space at 1710 17th Street, NE, in Washington, D.C. The facility, located on 2.1 acres with secure parking, will be used as office/flex/maintenance space. Newmark Principal Lisa Benjamin represented First Transit in the transaction.
“First Transit is more than doubling its physical presence in the D.C. area by taking this space,” Benjamin says. “This move will make it more cost effective and efficient for First Transit to service the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Circulator Bus contract. The availability of the space for its maintenance work was a primary factor in this decision.
“This building is a complete facility with flex, office and space for the maintenance department. It was configured in the early 1990s, and it includes a two-story office layout with redundant systems and three secure drive-in bays. It has a separate two-bay oversized repair garage of 2,230 square feet with restrooms, lockers and mezzanine storage area.”
The 2.1-acre lot is fenced, paved and lighted, with secure parking. Nordlinger Investment Corporation LLC owns the facility; John Uhar of Uhar & Company represented ownership in the transaction.
First Transit is a Cincinnati-based division of FirstGroup, a leading international transport operator that moves 2.5 billion people every year. Its D.C.-area operations h previously been located in Prince George’s County, Md.
