Newmark announces the firm has secured a 70,000-square-foot lease with an acclaimed private university at The Whale in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Newmark Senior Managing Directors Bernard Weitzman and Jordan Gosin, Managing Director Ryan Gessin, Director Christopher Ventura and Associate Rohan Kapoor are the exclusive leasing agents on behalf of ownership, Capstone Equities (“Capstone”).
The transaction grants the tenants construction of an on-site parking amenity that will be accessible to both tenants and the local community. Most significantly, this transaction also brings the property’s total leased square footage to 133,756 signed under new ownership. Additionally, the team has lease contracts out with multiple tenants, totaling more than 70,000 square feet.
“These milestones are a testament to our partnership-driven approach at The Whale,” said Gosin. “Our collaborative dynamic with ownership and our tenants continues to drive success, evidenced by the welcoming of another high-caliber tenant and further activation at the property.”
Another tenant at The Whale is Portal Warehousing, which provides small high quality, turn-key short-term warehouse space. Portal’s footprint, spanning the sixth and seventh floors, has reached 90% occupancy.
Situated in the heart of Sunset Park, The Whale is near hotspots such as Ba Xuygen, Pacificana, Café Grumpy, Laurentino’s Pasticceria, Bush Terminal Piers Park, Liberty Plaza and Brooklyn Army Terminal. The property is also conveniently located near the Sunset Park Ferry, providing a complimentary shuttle service to the 36th, 45th and 53rd Street R-line subway and offers on-site bike and e-scooter parking. The Whale continues to expand its amenities, which already include Pickleball courts on the third floor in collaboration with Socceroof.
