CH2M HILL, a global engineering and construction services firm, will relocate its regional operations from Dulles Gateway in Herndon, Va. to more than 77,000 square feet of space at Corporate Office Properties Trust’s (COPT) recently completed Washington Technology Park II building at Westfields Corporate Center in Chantilly, Va. The move is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.
Newmark Managing Director Monty Harris of the firm’s Atlanta office reported that CH2M HILL has signed a long-term lease for 77,651 square feet of space at the six-story, 250,000-square-foot building at 15010 Conference Center Drive.
Newmark served as corporate advisor in the transaction. Studley’s Corporate Managing Director Mark Roberts, Executive Vice President and Co-branch Manager Paul Schweitzer and Corporate Managing Director Stuart Diamond of the firm’s suburban Washington, D.C. office, served as local brokerage advisors to CH2M HILL in the eight-year lease deal. Newmark and CH2M HILL Commercial Real Estate LLC handled the lease negotiation process, while Studley provided local support. Derrick Boegner, vice president-asset management for Corporate Office Properties Trust, represented the building ownership.
Newmark’s Harris said the transaction is a win-win for both the tenant and the building owner. “CH2M HILL is moving to a facility that provides better functionality, room for growth and beneficial adjacent services and Corporate Office Properties Trust brings a major tenant to its new Washington Technology Park II property.”
He added that its new office allows CH2M HILL to operate on two full floors (the second and third) at Washington Technology Park II. At its current location, the firm occupies space on three floors. Harris noted that Newmark has done a significant amount of corporate real estate advisory work for CH2M HILL in the Northeast and Southeastern regions of the U.S.
