Newmark has expanded its Boston office with the addition of a seasoned team of professionals from The Codman Company, one of The Hub’s oldest real estate services firms. Joining the firm are former Codman principals David W. Campbell, Drew Nelson, Christopher A. Curley, James M. Belli, Tom Powers and their group of brokerage professionals; along with Principal Stephen M. Prozinski and his management team.
“This expansion brings us much nearer to our goal of becoming a dominant force in the Massachusetts commercial real estate market,” says Barry Gosin, CEO of Newmark. “We made these hires following a lengthy and exhaustive search; based on these gentlemen’s talent and reputation it was quite clear that they were an optimal fit.
“The Greater Boston market is one of the most complex and challenging in the United States, and one of the most exciting,” Gosin adds, “and it’s proximate to several other growing markets in New England-both urban and suburban. There’s a new ballgame every day—even if you don’t count the Patriots, the Red Sox, and the Celtics. Boston is known as a headquarters city for many financial services and investment companies, as well as for its emphasis on academics and scientific research-and of course New England has been one of America’s most important industrial regions for three centuries.”
The additions strengthen Newmark’s foothold in the Greater Boston market, significantly increasing the size of the firm’s brokerage operation. The new property management team brings with it a portfolio of 5.5 million square feet, bringing Newmark’s New England total to 7.5 million square feet. Coupled with a burgeoning facilities management operation, the firm cites tremendous growth potential for the future.
“With this expansion, we are bolstering our coverage of the market and the ability to execute the growing needs of our clients,” says James Thomson, managing principal of the Boston office. “We are hiring the best local talent, people who can provide intimate, individualized service and who already have exceptional local knowledge.”
Joining Newmark as principals are: Prozinski, who had been chief financial officer, chief operating officer and director of property management, as well as a principal of The Codman Company, oversaw all the assets managed by the firm. He has more than 18 years of experience in the management and accounting fields, and will continue to service his clients and grow the portfolio.
Belli joined Codman as a principal in November 2002 to direct the firm’s investment sales, having previously served as senior director of Cushman & Wakefield’s financial services group. He has nearly 25 years of real estate experience, the first 10 of which were spent in the development of a variety of office, retail and multi-family projects in the New England area.
Campbell joined Codman as a principal in 2004 after 12 years at Trammell Crow Company to oversee brokerage in Boston’s Western suburbs. With more than 21 years in the industry starting in property management, he has spent the past 15 years in a brokerage capacity representing developers, institutions, corporations and small businesses in the disposition, acquisition and leasing of office and industrial real estate, as well as in property management.
Curley joined Codman as a principal in 2006, bringing 12 years of industry experience to the firm. He was previously a vice president in the suburban brokerage division of GVA Thompson Doyle Hennessey & Stevens, now GVA Williams, focusing primarily on landlord and tenant representation in the North Suburban markets.
Nelson, also a former principal with Codman, is known for his work with technology-related clients, as well as general office leasing brokerage, for which he has won several industry awards for productivity. He has more than 19 years of real estate experience, having also held senior positions with Insignia/ESG and CB Richard Ellis.
