The Sierra Club, the oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States, has signed a new lease for 27,238 square feet at 50 F Street, NW, where it will build out new LEED certified offices, boosting its own efficiency and demonstrating its commitment to its broad energy efficiency initiatives.
Newmark managing principals Bill Zonghetti and Larry Bank represented Sierra Club in identifying the new location after residing at 408 C Street since its purchase of the property in the mid-1980s. Sierra Club will be consolidating its offices from 408 C Street and from 555 11th Street into the 50 F street location this year.
“We are fortunate to have experienced significant growth over the years and are so happy to be able to house all our employees in one space. We look forward to occupying our new green space at 50 F, which is conveniently located near Capitol Hill as well as the transportation hubs of the city,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune.
“It’s a pleasure and a personal highlight for us to represent Sierra Club. The organization has forged an impressive path working to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself, for over a hundred years. I couldn’t think of a better organization to work with that embodies the important issues facing our industry. With that said, we negotiated some unique green initiatives that the building ownership will undertake,” says Zonghetti, who along with Bank have worked with Sierra Club since 2004.
The 216,000-square-foot Class A building owned by Normandy Real Estate was represented by CB Richard Ellis.
“We are extremely proud of our tenant base throughout all of our properties, but the Sierra Club is one tenant that stands out due to its commitment and ongoing support for the good of our community,” said Paul Teti, vice president, Normandy Real Estate Partners. “At Normandy, our work extends beyond the walls of our buildings and into the communities we serve, and attracting a tenant that exemplifies those efforts is a great honor for us.”
