Newmark is proud to announce it helped raise over $150,000 as the presenting sponsor for the Stamford Boys & Girls Club Corporate 5K Race on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in Stamford, Connecticut. The event boasted participation from over 2,000 runners and walkers and 50 corporate sponsors, all supporting the organization’s mission to enable youth, especially those most at risk, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford is a dedicated youth facility that is open daily, managed by a professional staff and available and affordable to all youth. The group has provided after-school activities and development services to the youth of Stamford, Connecticut since 1927, servicing more than 1,600 children, ages six to 18. The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford’s focus is to offer programming in the core areas of character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, sports, fitness and recreation. The money raised from the Corporate 5K Race covers the cost of summer camp for hundreds of kids living at or below poverty level.
When Newmark moved its regional office to Stamford two years ago, employees expressed an interest in getting involved with local charities in its new city. After surveying the needs of the community and the organizations that tend to those needs, it was clear to Newmark that the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford changes the lives of the hundreds of children of all ages by inspiring confidence, a sense of competence, usefulness, influence and belonging in a positive and encouraging environment. Newmark Executive Vice President and Managing Director James Ritman has since joined the Club’s Board of Directors and has encouraged the engagement of his employees with the Club as well.
“As a company, Newmark helps firms invest in real estate, invest in their people and invest in their corporate culture,” said Ritman. “We look at the Boys & Girls Club as investing in the youth of Stamford, and investing in the future of Stamford.” An Newmark team of over 50 employees, clients, family and friends attended the event to walk, run or volunteer as needed on the day of the race.
Newmark Executive Vice President and Regional Manager Michael Cottle spoke during the sponsor reception preceding the race. “Everyone talks about corporate culture,” Cottle said in his remarks. “Supporting the Boys & Girls Club reinforces Newmark’s corporate culture in a way that also supports the youth of our city. It’s heartwarming to see our team share our success with the community, impacting generations of families.”
