The Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Workforce Housing has retained Newmark to create a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit high quality lease development proposals for the 58-acre Gabreski Industrial Park at the county’s Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton, N.Y.
Newmark was notified by Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Workforce Housing Commissioner Jim Morgo that it was selected for the assignment through a competitive RFP process.
Jack O’Connor, principal and director, National Industrial Practice Group, along with Chuck Tabone, SIOR, managing principal and Brian Lee, executive managing director of Newmark’s Melville, N.Y. office, are now working on drafting the RFP.
The 58-acre parcel at Gabreski Airport could accommodate up to approximately one million square feet of new development, O’Connor said. In the past, New York State, Suffolk County and Southhampton town officials have envisioned the development of an industrial park at the site. Back in March, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and Southampton Town Supervisor Patrick Heaney announced their desire for a high-tech/homeland security economic hub at the airport. They also stated that defense and communications firms and other low impact technology companies might find the property attractive.
The 58-acre site, owned by Suffolk County, has been designated by the Town of Southampton as a Planned Development District (PDD) suitable for light industrial use and is also one of six Suffolk County Empire Economic Development Sub-Zones that offer incentives.
Newmark’s O’Connor expects work on the RFP should be completed in March.
