Jim Linn, SIOR, joined Newmark in early 2019 as an Executive Managing Director in the firm’s Downtown Los Angeles office, where he focuses on industrial capital markets. Linn partners with Executive Managing Director Bret Hardy and Co-Head of U.S. Capital Markets Kevin Shannon. Linn brings to his position more than 30 years of experience investing in industrial investment. His areas of expertise include new business development, market and positioning strategy, team building, client relationship management, contract negotiations, underwriting, due diligence and closing.
Prior to Newmark, Linn was founding partner and president of the west region of Talos Capital, an industrial core plus, value add and opportunistic national investment firm specializing in tier I and tier II U.S. markets. Responsible for the Western U.S., Linn focused on industrial acquisitions and dispositions in Northern California, Southern California and Greater Seattle. Over the course of his tenure, Talos Capital closed more than $15 billion of industrial real estate across 20 states.
Linn founded Talos Capital in 2016, after eight years at Centerpoint Properties Trust, a $3.4 billion private real estate investment trust. As western regional Senior Vice President, he established CenterPoint’s first regional office, located in Los Angeles. In this position, Linn was responsible for hiring and supervising an investment team focused on industrial acquisitions and dispositions in port and intermodal-proximate submarkets in California and Seattle.
Earlier in his career, Linn was a Senior Vice President with Grubb & Ellis, now a part of Newmark. Based in Los Angeles, he focused on investments, sales, leasing, development and tenant representation in San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys. Linn was one of the region’s top industrial brokers and was recognized as San Fernando Valley Broker of the Year, Los Angeles Metro Broker of the Year and among the top 2% of all industrial brokers nationally.
Linn began his real estate career in 1986, as an associate vice president with Schneider Commercial Real Estate, a regional commercial real estate company with offices in Northern and Southern California. He leased and sold properties in the San Fernando Valley during his five years with the firm.
