John Gustafson, a Denver native and Director at Newmark’s Denver office, has over 25 years of experience in commercial real estate. Over this time period, Gustafson has produced a diverse background with significant involvement in advising clients in decisions related to office, life sciences, and healthcare properties. Gustafson’s long-term approach to business prioritizes the success of his clients, Newmark, and his business partners at the firm. His ambition, competitiveness, task management, and goal setting fuel his growth both personally and professionally.
Over his career, he has brokered over $700 million in sales plus more than 3.0 million square feet of leases. His clients include REITs, developers, institutional, and private capital investors plus office, life sciences, and healthcare organizations. Gustafson’s sale experience includes deals ranging from investments, value-add properties, owner-occupant facilities, and sale-leasebacks. His leasing transactions comprises of both tenant and agency representation spanning built-to-suits, developments, and portfolios. In addition, Gustafson has collaborated with numerous local and national Newmark brokers providing tactical approaches and solutions for the benefit of the client.
Prior to joining Newmark in 2012, Gustafson was a founding member of the Grubb & Ellis Healthcare Practice Group. Since 1996, his experience includes working in appraisal, development, and brokerage.

Education
In 1994, Gustafson was recruited by Coach Bill McCartney to play football at the University of Colorado and was a multi-year letterman and graduated with a major in finance and real estate.
