Joe Donato serves as a Vice Chairman with Newmark, responsible for leading the Mid-Atlantic region debt and structured finance business and accelerating the growth of the national platform. Donato specializes in raising capital for institutions, real estate operating companies and private investors. He has developed extensive relationships with a variety of capital sources including life insurance companies, domestic and off-shore commercial banking institutions, agencies, pension funds, investment banking institutions, real estate funds and foreign investors.
Donato joined Newmark in May 2014, bringing to the company more than 20 years of experience in commercial real estate finance, acquisition, disposition, valuation and analysis. He previously worked at CBRE, where he was a Vice Chairman.
From 2004 to 2013, Donato ranked among CBRE’s Top 10 debt and equity finance professionals nationally. In 2011, they were named the Top Regional Finance Agents by the Commercial Real Estate Brokerage Association of Greater Washington, DC (CREBA).
During his tenure with CBRE, Donato executed high-profile financings totaling more than $20 billion for CityCenterDC, Sentinel Square I, II, and III/IV, Metropolitan Park, Legg Mason Tower, Annapolis Towne Centre and Exelon Tower at Harbor Point, among others. In 2012 and 2013 Donato was CBRE’s top producer for office financings and bank financings. In 2006, his capital markets team was named CBRE’s Debt and Equity Finance Team of the Year, and in 2008, the team received the company’s Gary J. Beban Teamwork Award for its seamless collaboration within capital markets.
Education
Donato holds a Master of Science degree in real estate from Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Oneonta. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
