Stewart Lawrence Skloss is a proud father, man of faith, and lifelong Texan whose life has been shaped by perseverance, humility, and gratitude. A twelfth-generation Texan (dating back to before Texas was Texas) and Managing Director at global commercial real firm Newmark, Skloss represents the next generation of relationship-driven real estate professionals, those who see business not simply as transactions but as opportunities to build trust and enduring partnerships.
While attending the University of Texas at Austin, Skloss began his real estate journey in 1983. Over the subsequent decades, he has built a mosaic of relationships and commercial real estate projects spanning Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. His international experience and global network now position him to serve as a trusted single-source advisor for Sovereign Wealth Funds, Family Offices, Institutional Investors, and Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 companies seeking comprehensive, strategic representation for their domestic and international real estate needs.
“Clients today need more than a broker,” Skloss often says. “They need a trusted partner who understands their world, anticipates their needs, and can navigate every market with confidence and discretion. My goal is to be that person, someone they can call day or night, anywhere in the world, and know they’re in good hands.”
Early Entrepreneurial Foundations
Embarking on an entrepreneurial journey at sixteen, Skloss founded a Farm & Ranch infrastructure construction company that laid the groundwork for his future endeavors. Specializing in ranch-related infrastructure, this venture honed his leadership skills and instilled a foundational understanding of the real estate ecosystem.
Education and Early Career
Skloss’s academic journey led him to the University of Texas, where he pursued a vision rooted in international business and commercial real estate. During his college years, he interned with esteemed professionals, gaining invaluable experience with architects at Pfluger & Associates, developers at Gilingwater & Associates, and high-rise visionaries led by Irving Wallerstein.
His thirst for international perspectives took him to the Universidad de Autónoma in Guadalajara under UT’s international business program. Post-college, his career trajectory took a serendipitous turn with the Hearst Corporation in New York City, leading to roles in Hearst offices in London and eventually back to his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, as a Special Project Executive at the San Antonio Light Newspaper (now the San Antonio Express-News).
Return to Commercial Real Estate
Skloss returned to his core passion for commercial real estate during a recession, learning from the ground up. Starting with a heavy-highway company and a concrete firm, he embraced the ethos of hard work, often extending his days from dawn till dusk.
He co-founded a commercial real estate corporate services firm catering to Fortune 500 and Global 1000 clients across Central and South Texas and the U.S.–Mexico border. After two successful years and an acquisition by a globally-focused firm in Stamford, Connecticut, Stewart honored his agreement before pursuing broader international opportunities.
Global Experience and Current Role
With a global perspective and a client-first focus, Skloss operates wherever his clients’ needs take him, facilitating acquisitions and dispositions side by side with Newmark’s regional team leads across more than 180 offices worldwide. By partnering with Newmark’s nationwide network, his reach extends seamlessly to any market where his clients require trusted, strategic representation. Skloss is known for his unwavering discretion and commitment to confidentiality, ensuring that every client’s interests are protected with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
